Camden is a perfectly charming town about 90 minutes down the coast on Route 1. Homeport to many of the windjammers that ply the Maine coast, there are lovely shops and great restaurants where you can indulge in some really fine seafood. Since it is such a popular destination, just be prepared for summer crowds.

“Our menus are inspired by the place in which we live….Salt Water Farm at Union Hall is a café and market located in Rockport Harbor, Maine. Our establishment is located in a beautifully restored historic building, with a deck that looks over the Penobscot Bay. We are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and we offer daily provisions and household wares in our market. Our kitchen prepares simple, nourishing food using ingredients that honor their time and place. We believe in traditional cooking methods and resourcefulness in the kitchen. We are advocates for our community’s farmers, fisherman and craftsmen, making their products available in our cafe and market.” (From their website)
The Shepherd’s Pie opened on Memorial Weekend only a couple of days after the construction was finished. We had no outside sign, no outside lights, no listed phone number and no advertising.
Less than a year later we were nominated for a James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant.
We overlook beautiful Rockport Harbor, but we are more than just a pretty face.
