Sargentville

SARGENTVILLE:

Restaurants:

El El Frijoles (translation:  LL Bean!):  41 Caterpillar Hill Road, Sargentville, Maine 04673, 207-359-2489, www.elelfrijoles.com (Southwest cuisine – very informal, good for a quick bite).  This is a fabulous restaurant – never had a bad meal there. The specials are always an interesting combination of flavors and the proprietors, Michele and Michael are really nice people!  Turn right onto Rte. 15 out of the dirt driveway.  Go over Caterpillar Hill.  Restaurant will be about a mile or so down on your left.) Fun for the kids to run off some steam as they have a swing set there for guests to use. Eat in, eat out or take out.  Great iced coffee and fish tacos. Click here to read some more buzz about El El Frijoles!  Wednesday – Sunday, 11Am – 8 PM  And don’t miss their Down East counterpart in Castine:  Dudley’s Refresher at 5 Sea Street down by the water. They serve burgers, lobster rolls, crab rolls, fish n chips, fish tacos and oysters.  A great view too!

The seemingly simple menu, including burritos, soft tacos, empanadas and quesadillas is pretty familiar to anyone who has ever walked the streets of San Francisco, Los Angeles or practically any town in the Southwest. The food that is served, however, is delightfully complex and interesting—more like what one might expect in a hip, urban eatery than from a take-out joint in a barn in the woods. The cuisine is a simple blending of traditional Mexican street food and Downeast Maine's bounty of delicious, local ingredients. (From the website)

Tasha’s:  ( formerly Tashafer’s)  at Pine Ridge Golf Center, Rt. 15, Caterpillar Hill Road, Sargentville Maine 04673, 207-359-6788,  Closed Mondays:  summer hours: 11 AM to 7 PM.  Great food if you are interested in a quick carryout lunch or dinner.  For Four Winds alumnae – this is as close to Dippy Whip as we’re gonna get.  Not all fried foods – some healthy stuff, too!

Convenience Store and Gas:

If you need a loaf of bread or a quart of milk, we recommend Eggemoggin Country Store (ECS).  It is the closest to us on Route 15 towards Deer Isle (take a right out of the dirt drive and it will be the long blue building a few miles down on your left).  You can also get gas, wine and liquor here, as well. (For some reason, they do not honor out of state licenses for proof of age.)  ECS is not known for their bargain prices so we suggest that you use it only in emergencies.  They do have really good and reasonably priced pizzas, however.  Call and order one for pickup:  359-2125.

ECS is also the place to get your fishing license in case you would like to try your hand at catching dinner in the lake.  All you will need is a picture ID and $45.00 for a 7-day non-resident license.  Daily licenses are $13.00 per day, 3-day licenses are $25.00 and 15-day licenses are $49.00. Alternatively, you can purchase your fishing license online.

The following fish can be found in Walker Pond (maximum depth 47 feet): Alewife, American eel, Brook Trout, Brown Trout, Pickerel, Minnows, Pumpkinseed Sunfish, Smallmouth Bass, White and Yellow Perch.
